 Mar 21, 2014   **** Community Notice **** 
  The door to door meat sellers are back in the area. The vehicle is a gray Ford pickup with Texas plates and a large white cooler in the back. The markings on the vehicle state "The Steak Guys" and their paper work states "Steakhouse Supply". They DO NOT have a permit to solicit in town and were already asked to leave. The website on the paperwork they supplied is not active.

Do not become a victim. If they try to sell you meat, please contact this department at 978-386-5652.

 Mar 14, 2014   Arrest. 
  Philip H. Vondeck, 49, of Ashburnham, MA. was arrested on South Road at approximately 2252 hours and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, open container and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Vondeck was released on $300.00 cash bail and is due in Ayer District Court on Monday.

Arresting Officer: Reserve Officer Anthony Montesion.

  Special Town Meeting on March 15, 2014 at 9:30 AM at Ashby Elementary School.

 Mar 1, 2014   Arrest. 
  Jared A. Gove, 25, of Ashby, MA. was arrested on Foster Road at approximately 1659 hours on an outstanding warrant. Gove was held at the State Police Barracks in Leominster and is due in Ayer District Court on Monday.

Arresting Officer: Reserve Officer Glenn Casey.

 Feb 28, 2014   Arrest. 
  Joshua A. Guy, 35, of Leominster, MA. was arrested on Greenville Road at approximately 1837 hours and charged with violation of a restraining order and four outstanding warrants (3 from Fitchburg District Court and 1 from Edgartown District Court). Guy was held at the State Police Barracks in Leominster and is due in Ayer District Court on Monday.

Arresting Officer: Patrolman Brian F. Vautour.

 Feb 27, 2014   Arrest. 
  Lorin J. Horton, 24, of Wilton, NH. was arrested on Greenville Road at approximately 1537 hours and charged with possession of a class A substance (Heroin). Horton was released on personal recognizance and is due in Ayer District Court on Friday.

Arresting Officer: Chief Fred Alden and Patrolman Shawn McCluskey.

 Feb 27, 2014   Arrest. 
  Ryan M. Sanborn, 27, of Mason, NH. was arrested on Greenville Road at approximately 1537 hours and charged with possession of a class A substance (Heroin) and knowingly present where heroin is kept. Sanborn was held at the State Police Barrack in Leominster and is due in Ayer District Court on Friday.

Arresting Officer: Chief Fred Alden and Patrolman Shawn McCluskey.

 Feb 26, 2014   Arrest. 
  Eric A. Serpa, 24, of W. Warwick, RI. was arrested on Greenville Road at approximately 2030 hours and charged with speeding, failing to wear a seat belt and operating a motor vehicle without a license. Serpa was released on personal recognizance and is due in Ayer District Court on Thursday.

Arresting Officer: Patrolman Derek J. Pepple.

 Feb 21, 2014   Arrest. 
  Louis D. Sciabarrasi, 39, of Greenville, NH. was arrested on Fitchburg State Road at approximately 2000 hours and charged with a number plate violation and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. Sciabarrasi was released on $200.00 cash bail and is due in Ayer District Court on Monday.

 Feb 9, 2014   **** Community Notice **** 
  On Sunday 02/09/2014 at approximately 1220 hours an elderly female from Erickson Road reported that a black male knocked on her door and asked about cleaning her carpets. The male was invited in and tried to get the female to sign some type of form. After the female refused to sign anything the male left the area in a large blue station wagon type vehicle (possibly a Dodge).

We do not have any permits to solicit issued to any carpet cleaning company. DO NOT let a person that you don't know into your residence. Report these incidents to us at 978-386-5652.

  The Ashby Police Department would like to wish Reserve Officer Glenn Casey the best of luck. Officer Casey started the full time police academy in Springfield today and upon completion will be working for the City of Leominster.

 Jan 28, 2014   Community Notice. 
  A representative for the Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company / Kinder Morgan Company will be contacting people on Main Street, Erickson Road and Turnpike Road to speak with landowners about the possibility of a natural gas pipeline coming through town. This person does not need to gain access to your residence.

 Jan 24, 2014   ********** SAFETY ALERT ********** 
  Incidents of a suspicious person approaching children at bus stops have been reported in area towns.

The suspect is described as a white male with medium to dark complexion, may have facial hair, medium length straight black hair, between the ages of 25-35 years old, and may be wearing silver framed eye glasses.

The suspect vehicle is described as a silver or gray Toyota Prius (photo is not actual vehicle) with tinted windows with a 2 to 4 inch blue and white sticker attached to the back window on the driver's side. The registration number is unknown at this time but has been reported to be Massachusetts with red numbers.

Area departments are looking to identify this person. If you have any information or spot the vehicle, do not approach the vehicle but call your local police department immediately.

  Several people in town have reported that they are receiving these phone calls. DO NOT give any information, bank account numbers, credit card numbers or wire money.

  The men and women of the Ashby Police and Dispatch would like to thank Krista Burson for her service to the Town of Ashby. Krista has resigned as the Administrative Assistant to the Police Chief to take another job. We all wish her good luck with her new job.

 Jan 18, 2014   B&Es reported. 
  Two B&Es have been reported on New Ipswich Road today. Entry was made into both residences by forcing the door open. The first resident reported a 50 TV, Xbox and jewelry missing while the second resident reported prescription medications missing.

Both are currently under investigation.

 Jan 17, 2014   Job Posting. 
  The Town of Ashby is accepting applications for the part-time, non-benefited position of Accounting Clerk and Administrative Assistant to the Police Department. Duties include assisting Town Accountant with preparation of accounts payable, payroll, receivables processing, and maintaining accounting files. A thorough knowledge of principles/practices of municipal accounting, financial computer applications and accuracy is a prime requisite. Knowledge of Excel is critical. Police Department Administrative Assistant duties include bills and payroll submittals & tracking, electronic reporting for grants, data entry for firearms licensing, ordering supplies, filing and organizing and other clerical/accounting duties as deemed appropriate. A background check including CORI check and finger print submission is required. 18 hrs./week during warrant weeks and 13 hrs./week during non-warrant weeks with schedule t/b/d. Minimum two years of higher education preferred.

  James P. Penny, 46, of Ashby, MA. was arrested at the police station at approximately 2151 hours on an outstanding warrant. Penny was held at the State Police Barracks in Leominster on $300.00 cash bail and is due in Ayer District Court on Monday.

 Jan 10, 2014   AMBER ALERT FROM FITCHBURG POLICE. MOTHER HAS TIES TO ASHBY. 
  UPDATE - AMBER ALERT CANCELLED. BOTH HAVE BEEN FOUND IN NORTH CAROLINA.

Friday 01/10/2014--BOLO 1998 Buick Century Color Blue. South Carolina Registration JJT687. Non-Custodial kidnapping by mother, Leeanna Wilson, Age 50, W/F. Child is 6 year old Alize Whipple, B/F, pink top and pants, pink sparkly sneakers. Mother is bi-polar, and may be fleeing with child to South Carolina.
