Ashby Police and Fire Departments Respond to Multiple Wind Damage Incidents

First Responders Recover and Return a Fallen American Flag to its Owner

ASHBY — Fire Chief Mike Bussell and Police Chief Fred Alden report that first responders from the Town of Ashby were dispatched to numerous incidents of damage caused by high winds, including rescuing a downed American flag.

Beginning at 9:37 a.m. today, Ashby dispatch receieved multiple reports of trees and wires knocked down by high winds, with the majority of calls coming in the early afternoon. During their response efforts, Ashby Police Sgt. Derek Pepple and Deputy Fire Chief Sean Sheridan teamed up to unhook and fold an American Flag after its pole was felled by wind.

In all, the Ashby Police, Fire and Highway Departments were dispatched to approximately 14 cases of fallen trees or damaged wires. During the height of the damage, several roads including Erickson, Hosmer, Pine, Fort Hill and Deer Bay Roads were closed. All streets have since re-opened.

Unitil Gas and Electric is actively working to restore service where outages occurred. Residents can track service restoration progress using Unitil’s outage map, which can be accessed here.

There were no reported injuries as a result of any of today’s wind-related damage.

Residents should avoid any fallen wires and report them by calling 911.
