ASHBY — Chief Fred Alden reports that the Ashby Police Department Wednesday evening arrested a man after he allegedly drove drunk and crashed his vehicle into a local business.
DAMON THOMAS WUTH, AGE 38, OF ASHBY was charged with:
- Operating Under the Influence of Liquor
- Marked Lanes Violation
- Leaving the Scene of Accident with Property Damage
On Wednesday, Dec. 16 at approximately 7 p.m., Ashby Police responded to G&M Automotive, located at 245 Fitchburg State Road for a report of a car into a building. The Ashby Fire & EMS Department and Fire & EMS Chief Mike Bussell were already at the scene.
Responding officers located a 2003 Subaru Forester with airbag deployment that had crashed through the garage bays of the auto business and caused heavy damage to the building and multiple vehicles inside. No one was found in the vehicle or the building.
Multiple witnesses at the scene gave a description of the driver, and police immediately began a search for the driver who had left the scene but was also likely injured, as police found blood stains inside the vehicle.
Police also found a driver’s license inside the vehicle, identifying WUTH.
Police went to the home address listed on the driver’s license and located WUTH.
WUTH was arrested and booked at the Ashby Police Department, where, after agreeing to complete a preliminary breath test, was determined to have a blood alcohol content of .224.
WUTH was evaluated by Ashby Fire & EMS and transported to Leominster Hospital for evaluation and treatment of cuts, mostly from broken glass.
With courts closed Thursday due to snow, WUTH will likely be arraigned Friday at Ayer District Court.
The Townsend and Groton Police Departments assisted Ashby Police at the scene.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
