ASHBY — Chief of Police Derek J. Pepple and Fire Chief Brian Reichelt report that Ashby Police and Ashby Fire and EMS are working with the Patriot Regional Emergency Communications Center, state and municipal partners and professional information technology vendors to investigate and mitigate to a cyberattack that has impacted some Ashby public safety systems.
The 911 phone system continues to operate normally, and at this time there is no evidence that private user information has been shared.
Leaders at the Patriot Regional Emergency Communications Center and Ashby Public Safety learned about this incident Tuesday, and immediately engaged an insurance provider and several outside cybersecurity specialists, as well as state and federal law enforcement partners, to identify the cause of the cyberattack, to contain any possible damage, and to begin restoring services.
Cybersecurity professionals are now working with local officials to determine exactly what data may have been compromised, and working to ensure that data is not released.
The station phone numbers for Ashby Police and Ashby Fire and EMS are currently unavailable as a result of this incident. For non-emergencies, residents are asked to call 978-433-2671. This number is available 24/7.
Ashby Police and Ashby Fire and EMS continue to respond to emergency calls without interruption.
