Police Chief Fred Alden is pleased to share that the Ashby Police Department has been awarded a grant by the Commonwealth Security Trust Fund (CSTF) to further equip its cruisers.
The CSTF Grant Program aims to enhance local police and fire departments’ abilities to respond to emergencies, including responses to acts of terrorism.
The $5,000 grant will be used to outfit a fleet vehicle with a computer. All marked vehicles were equipped with computers in October 2020 via a State 911 Grant.
“This grant means our entire fleet now is outfitted for 21st century police communications. Officers can access records, initiate reports and communicate with the regional dispatch center. This makes us a more efficient Department,” Chief Alden said. “I thank the Baker-Polito Administration and the state for providing this grant.”
A total of $345,337.95 in funding was distributed among 40 communities. Funding can be used for equipment, technology, training or planning. The grants are administered by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s (EOPSS) Office of Grants & Research (OGR).
