Chief Fred Alden reports that the Ashby Police Department responded to an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) crash that injured four individuals this afternoon.
On Sunday, March 8 at approximately 12:25 p.m., the Ashby Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of an ATV crash on New Ipswich Road in the area south of Harris Road.
The initial on-scene investigation showed that the ATV operator lost control and struck a tree. Four people were riding on the ATV at the time of the crash. The riders included a 24-year-old male, a 24-year-old female, a seven-year-old child and a four-year-old child.
Ashby Fire EMTs, mutual aid paramedics and Ashby Police officers rendered aid to the four ATV riders. The 24-year-old male, the 24-year-old female and the four-year-old child were taken by ambulance to a local hospital. They have since been treated and released.
The seven-year-old rider was taken by ambulance to a local hospital before being flown by medical helicopter to UMass Memorial Medical Center with injuries that are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.
Townsend Fire sent an ambulance to the scene to assist. Massachusetts Environmental Police also assisted on the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by the Massachusetts Environmental Police.
