Ashby Police Officer Graduates From Police Academy
Former Reserve Officer Erik Salo Promoted to Full-Time Status
ASHBY — Police Chief Fred Alden is pleased to announce that the Ashby Police Department has welcomed back Officer Erik Salo to its full-time roster following his graduation from the Western Massachusetts Police Academy.
Officer Salo graduated from the 26-week academy on Dec. 15 and was recognized during a ceremony held in Chicopee.
While at the academy, Officer Salo performed exceptionally and was chosen as the class leader. He also received the Director’s Award after completing the program with a 93.7 grade point average.
“Ashby residents should be proud of the way Officer Salo represented our town and our department,” Chief Alden said. “We’re excited to have him back working full-time, and I have no doubt he will continue to serve our community with pride and distinction.”
Officer Salo, an Ashby native and Army Reserves veteran, first joined the Ashby Police Department in 2006 as a part-time reserve officer. He then earned a promotion to his new full-time role earlier this year and started at the academy in June. On Dec. 17, Officer Salo completed his first patrol shift as a full-time officer.
In addition to his experience in Ashby, Officer Salo has worked as a reserve officer in Shirley and as a part-time officer in Westminster and at Fitchburg State University.
