Chief Fred Alden reports the Ashby Police Department is investigating a report of a suspicious man in a vehicle who approached two children riding bicycles Friday afternoon.
At approximately 1:40 p.m., Ashby Police were called to Jewett Hill Road for a report of a suspicious man driving through the neighborhood who attempted to get two young girls to come to his vehicle.
The girls had noticed the man driving slowly behind them before he passed them, turned around and approached them from the opposite direction. The man then stopped the car and motioned for the two to come to his car.
Both girls immediately ran away, and the driver did not make any further attempt to contact or follow the children. Ashby Police were called immediately after the incident occurred.
The suspect is described as a white male in his 40s or 50s with short, brown hair wearing a dark colored sweatshirt. He was driving an older dark green four door sedan with multiple scratches, silver wheels and a license plate that did not have a white background.
The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information about the incident, vehicle or driver — particularly residents of the Jewett Hill Road, Jones Hill Road and West Road neighborhoods who may have home video surveillance footage taken during the time before or after the incident — is asked to call the Ashby Police Department at 978-386-5652.
