Acting Chief Derek J. Pepple and the Ashby Police Department are pleased to welcome two new officers to the department after their graduation from the Municipal Police Training Committee’s Lynnfield Police Academy.

Officers Eldon Garhart and Christopher Davis graduated with the Lynnfield Academy’s Third Recruit Officer Class on Wednesday, July 26.

Officer Garhart is originally from Spearfish, South Dakota, and served eight years with the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division. He served two tours of duty in Iraq.

Garhart served with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department in North Carolina for seven years, and in the Weld County Sheriff’s Department Detention Center for a year. He has an Associate’s degree in Strength and Fitness, and is working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Physiology.

Officer Davis is originally from Mansfield. He also is a U.S. Army veteran who served 6 1/2 years as a truck driver and member of the Honor Guard, carrying out duties at more than 550 funerals.

He worked at the Transportation Security Administration in Boston for a year, as a dispatcher for the Patriot Regional Emergency Communications Center for three years, and as a Pepperell Police Auxiliary Officer for 2 1/2 years.

“Both of these new officers are well-qualified veterans and I am excited for them to join our Department and become a part of our community,” said Chief Pepple. “If residents see Officer Davis and Officer Garhart out around town, I encourage you to say hello and welcome them to Ashby.”

Both officers will now start an 11-week field training program under the supervision of a more experienced officer.
